Security Tops Lake Chad Governors’ Demand

Yobe State Government is set to host the Fifth Lake Chad Basin Governors Forum in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe (host), Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, Lidjima Abdraman of Hadjer-Lamis, Brig. Gen. Mohamadou Ibrahim of Diffa, Midjiyawa Bakari of the Far North Region, Abate Edi’i Jean of the North Region, and Gen. Saleh Haggar Tidjani of the Province of Lac will be meeting to strengthen security, peace, and stability at a three-day event.
The forum is scheduled to hold from 29th – 31st January, 2025 at Muhammadu Indimi International Conference Hall, Maiduguri.
Key sessions will feature an in-depth analysis of current security and humanitarian trends in the Lake Chad Basin, led by the Force Commander of the MNJTF and the UN System.
It will be followed by a review of the Regional Strategy for Stabilisation, Recovery, and Resilience (RS-SRR), where stakeholders will explore updated strategies, implementation tools, and funding mechanisms, enriched by insights from traditional rulers and expert discussions.
Addressing journalists in Maiduguri on Monday, 27th January 2025, the secretary to the Yobe State Governor, who is also the chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Baba Mallam Wali, says, “The forum represents a significant milestone in our collective efforts to address the multifaceted challenges facing the Lake Chad Basin region while reinforcing shared commitment to stabilisation, recovery, and resilience.”
He affirmed that more than 1000 delegates are expected to attend the event towards tackling instability under the theme: “Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin, Consolidating Gains, Commitment to Peace, Cross-Border Cooperation, Security, and Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community.”
