Borno State Environmental Protection Agency (BOSEPA) has flagged off the second phase of fumigation to control rodents and reptiles in the state.

It could be recalled that the 10th September 2024 flood submerged 80% of the state, destroyed households, contaminated the environment with invasion of explosive devices, rodents, and reptiles that can be injurious to human health.

General Manager of BOSEPA, Abubakar Suleiman, facilitated the deployment of 10 motorised sprayers for speedy fumigation across the state to curtail disease outbreaks, solid waste among other harmful objects and wildlife intrusion.

“The second phase of the exercise will target a total of 24 communities across Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Jere, Mafa, and Konduga. We expect to extend our reach once we get additional motorised sprayers.”

The General Manager thanked Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his all-around support in providing relief to flood victims.

Mr Suleiman sought the patience and cooperation of communities to make the exercise successful in all the flood affected areas and beyond.

Also speaking, Co-Chairman Commitee on Flood Disaster Relief Disbursement, Prof. Ibrahim Umara cautioned the twenty sprayers not to stampede in an area they are not sure of.

“While fumigating, be weary of these three dimensional threat – rodents control, reminant of solid waste that will be deactivated and likelihood of encountering unexplosive devices that flood might have bring in.”

Prof. Umara appreciated the efforts of the general manager and his staff in ensuring the environment is danger free.

Speaking on behalf of Anguwan Doki, Bulama Makinta Modu expressed gratitude to the leadership of Abubakar Suleiman, saying he always responds to communities’ concern in terms of environmental protection.
