Borno: 10 Million Nigerians to be Screened for Hypertension and Diabetes in 7 Days
In an unprecedented effort to address the rising cases of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Borno State Health Commissioner, Prof. Baba Mallam Gana has launched a seven-day statewide health screening campaign under the initiative “Know Your Number, Control Your Number.”
The initiative, targeting hypertension and diabetes screening for 10 million Nigerians, covers all 36 states of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), expected to run from October 28 to November 3, 2024.
The goal of the campaign is to promote early detection, prevention, and management of cardio-metabolic diseases.
Borno state Health Commissioner says by empowering citizens to understand their health metrics, the government hopes to reduce complications linked to these diseases.
The initiative targets 37,000 persons in Borno with blood pressure and blood sugar measurements across various communities in the state.
In support of data collection and monitoring, a digital application, Kobo Collect, has been introduced. The process is voluntary and confidential, with participants receiving counseling and referrals to healthcare facilities if abnormalities are detected. On-site treatment options are also available in urgent cases.
